About me
Having graduated from the University of Huddersfield with a Media & Sports Journalism degree, sport is my biggest passion and my desire to make headway within the media industry is extremely strong so I see this position as an ideal opportunity to begin a promising career.
In order to further my knowledge, particularly in the PR sector, I have undertaken brief unpaid internships and my experiences have encouraged me to undertake an even longer internship to further enhance my skills and understand gain a clearer understanding of the media arena. And it is because of these placements that I realise how important social media sites can be as a communication tool within the media landscape.
I spent some time with Radio 1's press office which allowed me to obtain invaluable experience of working in a busy environment with a high profile organisation where no day was the same and my duties were varied.
I wrote and edited press releases regarding upcoming shows for the BBC Asian Network where I liaised with contacts to get the shows some publicity. I also researched and contacted relevant contributors for Radio 1's Big Conversation at City Hall, contributors who I felt would be interested in attending the event and who could bring a great deal to the occasion. I also listened to several shows which included big name guests, and I had to transcribe their interviews and gather comments and contact various media outlets to run a story.
I also worked with Leeds based Eudaimonia Communications helping strategise a campaign with the British Athletes Commission where the aim was to get the organisation some funding as they are not funded by the Government. I also helped the company with its social media presence, understanding how important social media is as a promotion vehicle for a company or brand.
I have taken considerable steps to improve and enhance my ability by writing sporting features for my own blogging site *.
Whilst at University, I was asked to be the Editor of a University related charity magazine where I would have to liaise with photographers, writers and interviewees and instruct them of their duties accordingly.
Given the industry that I am looking to get into I understand that you have to be a clear and concise communicator and have effective written and verbal skills in order to elicit responses from the people who you are in contact with, whether it is clients or colleagues.
