About me

I have just graduated from the University of Leeds with a 2:1 in Textile Design where I chose to specialise in knit and structured textiles. I am passionate about all aspects of the field of textile design but I have always been drawn to the mathematical qualities and the structure of knit.

I believe textile design is a very adaptable art form, one which allows for functionality and practicality but also as a means of expressing an individuals personality or mood.

Feeling tired or sick

I am currently looking for a textiles job based in the historic textile hub of Yorkshire. I possess an eye for detail, design and colour and I am design-confident, which is an attribute that will always be with me. However, this year, my degree required me to write a dissertation in which i focused on the topic of the ever increasing age gap between skilled workers in the British Textiles Manufacturing Industry. This research opened my eyes to this endemic in the industry and has led me to pursue a career where I can get a firsthand experience of what it is like to work in a UK based textile firm - be it in a design position, fabric or garment tech position etc.

My ideal job is to work on a design team where collaboration with other key departments such as technical and manufacturing is at the helm so that there is opportunity for career progression and development into other skilled fields. In June 2017 I completed a 12-month work placement at UK based sock supplier, Roy Lowe and Sons and during my time there I matured as a designer and recognised my flair for working within the fashion and textiles supply chain.

Over those 12 months at Roy Lowe I also gained a priceless amount of experience working daily with various other teams in the workplace, most notably the technical team and the on-site machine operators. This regular interaction gave me an invaluable insight into the journey of an original CAD design translated into a finished knitted textile product. Daily teamwork of this kind enabled me to develop and enhance my approach to designing with the machine capabilities in mind whilst still achieving an aesthetically pleasing product. I found this to be an exceptionally rewarding experience and one that convinced me that I should pursue a career at an establishment where collaboration, innovation and design development is at the helm.
