About me
I am a eager, creative, original and quirky Graphic Designer, equipped with a wide and eclectic range of skills always looking to expand them, always looking for the next challenge. I was originally trained as a fine artist before moving to more digital format. This has often given me a slightly a more conceptually creative and out of the box approach to briefs, within its framework of course, whether realised through pen, Photoshop, Oil Paint or Indesign the aim remains creativity, functionality, originality and simplicity.
At Uni I developed a set of socially aware and informative projects. Culminating in a Final Masters project where I designed a barcode scanning app, informing the public of both the nutritional information and tax information in relation to a hypothetical Sugar/Fat Tax. After graduating with distinction from my Masters my passion for informative, clear and inspired Graphic Communication led me to volunteer at the non-profit NGO OneCommunity. An organization built to encourage and educate people to live in non-damaging ways to our environment and those around us, all plans and materials available free in an open source format. I joined work on a project promoting alternative building methods using renewable and recycled materials, modeled into whole communities. Taking the 3D Sketchup designs from the architects, choosing render views, then bringing life to those renders in Photoshop by adding incidentals such as plants people object lighting and shadow, ready to go in an informational book about the project.
More recently in my last position, I was the sole in-house designer at an Educational Career Development provider with operations spanning three continents. I had responsibility for producing all visual marketing and operational materials, from promotional brochures to social media banners, training workbooks/worksheets/classroom materials, conference banners to updating the companies branding and logo. Filling such a varied role meant I was forced to improve non-artsy skills such as my spelling and grammar since typos on material aimed at teachers is doubly mortifying, furthermore being the sole member of the graphics department meant I had to become more confidence in regard to things like industrial print settings and format types. I greatly valued the opportunity of working closely with the different department managers, being part of a close-knit multi-disciplinary team all pulling together for the same goal, taking the opportunity to learn from and teach each other.
While I will be the first to admit, I don't know everything, I will always be tirelessly and cheerfully trying to remedy that lack. If given the opportunity I will bring a positive can-do attitude, dedication, curiosity and an eagerness to learn.
