About me

I have been working in various fields of graphic design for 27 years. Over the last decade, I have been employed by international newspaper, Positive News, and its supplement magazine, Positive Living, being wholly responsible for the design and layout of both publications, including typesetting, picture research and any consequent photographic manipulation prior to print, working within an editorial team, adhering to strict deadlines.
Over the years I have been here, I have also been story researching, editing, proof reading, as well as writing articles and major features, building up a reputation as a competent writer, as well as perfecting the required editorial skills. These include being able to turn a rough manuscript into a final version; checking other people's articles for content and structure, and negotiating changes with the author; correcting ‘muddled' text, ‘cleaning up' sentences and other non-mechanical line-by-line editing, including letter adjustments to avoid widows or orphans, selecting good hyphen breaks from bad ones; creating new parts of a manuscript; editing for grammar, spelling, punctuation and other mechanics of style; checking accuracy of facts and quotes used by the author; and co-ordinating all forms of typesetting, layout and design.
