About me
Dear Sir / Madam,
As you will see from my CV, I have a degree in English & U.S. Literature and am currently studying for the Proofreading and Editorial Skills course with Chapterhouse. I am also a member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP).
I have a strong secretarial background in the legal sector, which has provided me with invaluable transferable skills such as time management and the ability to work independently. In addition to the above qualifications and attributes, I have the enthusiasm, commitment and dedication needed to pursue a full-time career in freelance proofreading.
I have experience of proofreading a variety of different documents, including annual reports, newsletters, magazines, dissertations and theses. Some of these have been written by non-native English speakers and therefore, at times, have been extremely abstract and as well as checking the text for spelling and grammatical errors, I have also needed to check for consistency, readability and a suitable choice of vocabulary. This has involved being able to decipher the text and understand the subjects being discussed, whilst always retaining the original voice of the author. Many of these assignments have required a very fast turnaround time and I have always met the deadlines.
I very much hope you will consider offering me an opportunity to work with you and would like to thank you for taking the time to read my application.
