Sara's work
About Sara
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am a PR Manager, copywriter and former Guardian journalist keen to join you as a copywriter.
I have written newsletters, brochures, leaflets, SEO website copy, advertisements, press releases and campaigning literature for my current employer, Optimise PR. For example, for sector skills council the IMI I wrote a campaigning manifesto to promote their vision for the industry and to help enlist government support for their training programmes. I have also written and overseen the production of newsletters and award entries for property developer Crest Nicholson, and for other clients, including a breast cancer charity, each with their own sensitivities, house style and preferred tone.
For Optimise PR I also pitch for new business, plan PR strategies, map key audiences. I have managed online campaigns, and really enjoy the diversity this offers in targeting messages through distinct social media. Through this I have also developed a clear understanding of what works in different social media, as well as knowledge of emerging trends. I blog for myself and for my manager, Nigel Ferrier.
I often work independently, devising campaigns and writing campaign literature, but also meet regularly with various client and internal agency teams and carefully incorporate their input. I am used to managing people and juggling several projects at once, prioritising, and am highly organised. I have to plan carefully to meet production deadlines, ensuring each project is managed within budget.
Before that, for nine years, I worked for the Guardian newspaper and website, mainly as a writer and editor. For nine months I oversaw the development of the Society Guardian website for what is dubbed web 2:0, adding new tools for user engagement. At the time I was Acting Deputy Editor of the Society Guardian website (maternity cover) and managed a small team of writers and editors, as well as commissioning news, comment and features on a tight budget and overseeing the production process.
For a few years I was also Deputy Production Editor of the Society Guardian website and often managed a team of subeditors publishing breaking news and features.
I am proficient in Microsoft Office systems and use most each week for Optimise PR, where I also invoice clients, keeping a database of work carried out and of key contacts. I am adept at producing search engine optimised copy. I have also worked as a consultant on web design, for the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit.
This sounds like a really interesting job and I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Sara Gaines
