About me

I am a documentary filmmaker and director, currently undergoing a masters program at UCL, in Ethnographic Documentary Filmmaking.

This is a further technical foundation on my undergraduate degree in English with Film studies, which was completed with honours at King's college London in 2021. Born in the US, I grew up internationally in Switzerland and Cambodia, before moving to the UK to pursue my studies in 2018. I have a longstanding love of film and photography, but am versed in a number of creative mediums, from visual art and design, poetry, critical analysis, through to editing and film direction.

I am particularly inspired by anthropological approaches to documentary storytelling, as the combination of creative and scientific methodologies is something I am keen to develop within my own work - both in and outside the scope of filmmaking. I am fascinated by the ways that information is documented and presented to audiences, how this is changing in a time of rapid social and technological development, and the specific role that the documentary filmmaker will occupy as these changes occur.
I also believe that my diverse cultural background makes me particularly well suited to this program. Born in the United States, I grew up primarily in Switzerland and then Cambodia. Growing up in such diverse places was an incredible opportunity, but I was deeply impacted by the disparities I encountered, particularly in Phnom Penh - where inequity is rampant. Since then I have been motivated to pursue a career that would allow me to work creatively, whilst simultaneously enabling me to put my advocacy skills to productive use. During my time as a Film student at King's I developed my passion for film, coming to realise its unique potential as an audio-visual medium for catalysing change, specifically via the documentary format. In developing my skills as a filmmaker, I hope to someday address issues of systemic inequity on both an individual and global scale.
