About me

I am currently working as a Researcher and Copywriter on behalf of the Royal British Legion. My role has been within the current Knowledge Management team. Within this role I have written a significant amount of copy aimed at internal and external audiences as part of the new digital platform adopted by the Legion.

Creating content for the Knowledge Base has involved researching for and writing hundreds of short web-based articles, covering a broad spectrum of Armed Forces related topics. As part of the publishing process I have proof-read all of my articles, and ensured that the copy is accurate and up-to-date. In order to successfully address the three key Knowledge Base audiences - internal, external, and third party organisations - I have had to display an ability to effectively adapt my language style and tone accordingly. Since working in my current role I have exceeded assigned targets for output, and consistently created copy to a publishable standard. I have also played a key role in defining the information provision strategy within the Knowledge Base, helping to shape the way in which the four pillars interact with one another.

Throughout my career, as well as my studies, I have displayed excellence in communication; both written and verbal. I have previously worked as a Charity Street Fundraiser for St. Mungo's, the British Red Cross, and the NSPCC. Working as a Street Fundraiser required me to be extremely personable and competent at communicating the needs, aims, and capabilities of a particular charity to a hugely diverse spectrum of individuals. Throughout my time at the Royal British Legion I have liaised with employees across all four Directorates, in order to share with them the features and capabilities of the new digital platform, and to identify how the Knowledge Base can best host the relevant information. This has involved arranging and attending meetings, and corporate events.

While studying for my degree I also displayed my excellent written communication skills, with every one of my final year assignments being awarded a First Class grade, and my writing style often being singled out for praise.

I am highly competent with the use of computers and have a proven track record of effectively using; Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; SPSS statistical research software; and Moxiesoft and RightNow web content creation software.

I have always enjoyed working as part of team, and have done so in a number of previous roles. I currently work as part of a four-person unit, and have previously worked in a number of fundraising teams. I believe that I have often shown myself to be a hardworking and supportive member of staff, and one with an ability to lead by example. The copy I have written has been modelled as an example of best practice, and I have been involved in reviewing, editing, and publishing my colleagues' content.

At the Legion I have consistently and successfully explored ways to improve the quality and efficiency of the knowledgebase content; including drawing up a set of editorial guidelines for the team, and creating and maintaining my own database to keep track of article attachments and external links. I have also provided a great deal of administrative support to my team and have been responsible for the filing and organisation of documents (both soft and hard copy).
