About me
Salvatore followed a career in Environmental Science and Geology to eight seasons in Antarctica. He returns periodically to manage a remote field camp on the West Antarctic Ice Sheet. Landscape and culture compelled him into filmmaking when realizing that his access to Deep Field Camps and the remote-and-isolated experience allowed him a unique opportunity to share something that few modern humans can even imagine. Encouraged and supported by a professional filmmaker who visited the camp in 2007 he began to document life from the perspective of a Deep-Field-Occupant and 'Ice-Recidivist'. Capturing three seasons; a crew of three people for 4-months, 500-miles from McMurdo Station; prepared him well for shooting under difficult conditions. He is currently applying the same documentary style taking advantage of the team's access to a traditional Medicine Man and immersing himself in the Lakota religion, the Pine Ridge Community, and the Indigenous World-View.
