About me
For the last 2 years I have been working for a stationers in Bond Street creating stationery in the Bespoke Salon to customers personal specifications. There are 3 typesetters based at our factory in Swindon, of which I liaise with on a daily basis, my work is sent to me on email and I work solely to create stationery to rules and regulations set out by Smythson to a very high standard of which we are expected to adhere to. Instant proofs are also required and obviously expected to be created as soon as possible for customers to approve imediately. Reproofs are sent to us on email and are sent back to the customer the same day.
Previously I was working for a weekly antiques newspaper where I was responsible for laying out pages, making sure the pictures were displayed with the text for maximum impact. Also design of advertisements and updating weekly Fairs and Markets listings. Pdfs were created when pages were approved and then sent to the printers.
I have experience of working in a busy production department environment, I spent 7 year working in the production department at The Independent newspaper where I was in charge of setting all advertisements for various sections of the newspaper including Motoring, Education and Travel sections. I was also responsible for Reader Offers which were placed in various sections of the Newspaper or Saturday/Sunday magazines, this information would be supplied as word files and jpgs and I would be expected to follow templates and use style sheets to create pages to look similar to templates.
I possess a good eye for typography and page layout skills, I have in-depth knowledge of print software and have a very strong passion and interest in print.
The reason I would like to apply for this position is because I think I have the relevant experience, I would really love to use and develop my skills further, and would love to get back to designing pages and working in a busy department. I am very organised, conscientious and hard-working.
