In order to support a small restaurant that have been shut down due to COVID-19, we created a ‘Future Voucher’. The restaurant is a small teishoku (set meal) restaurant called ‘Kotori Shokudo’ in Harajuku, Tokyo where the shop owner runs everything by herself. The shop was loved by neighbors and workers in the city. But now, ‘Kotori Shokudo’ is operating only for takeout ‘to-go’ and its sales have dropped significantly.
In Japan, there was a movement to go to the restaurants and spend money to support them from February to March. The trend became smaller in April, but there are many restaurants saying that they must continue to run business to survive and there are still a certain number of people who go there to eat. It is a sad movement that behavior from good will leads to the spread of infection. A mechanism to save familiar shops while suppressing the spread of the virus is the ‘Future Voucher.’ This might be simple and common initiative that sells 10,000 yen for 10 meals. However
