About me
I am Ross Waters, a graphic designer based in London.
I graduated in June 2010 from Reading University with a 2:1 in Typography & Design for Communication.
I've had the incredible opportunity to work for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) as a designer, creating the 'look and feel of the games' - but more about that later.
I love designing for print, and pay close attention to detail in my work - but I am still determined to broaden my skills as a designer, and I am always eager to learn.
I also like spaghetti bolognese, magazines, coffee, Spirographs (I have a tattoo of one!), the smell of new books, and most importantly, my MacBook Pro.
Skills
Fluent in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat Pro and basic knowledge of Adobe Dreamweaver, CSS and HTML., Fully competent with Microsoft Office programs.
Sector Experience
LOCOG, Creative Designer, Apr 11 - Sept 12, I worked on the Look team for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Joining the team in my first paid role, I proved my existing skills and my capacity for development, being promoted from Artworker to Designer. Our small studio had the onerous task of designing the look of the games, then applying them to the city of London and the Olympic Venues. From designing bespoke pieces to artworking hundreds of banners and flags, I worked on many projects, requiring a wide array of skills. Much of this work has been top secret in the run up to the games, but now that the Olympics has started, I can start to put my work on display. I will upload images soon - but until then, feel free to send me an email and I will show you some of the designs I have worked on., Catalyst Consultancy PR, Graphic Designer, Dec 10 - Apr 11, Catalyst is a leading London-based PR company for hair products, salons and restaurants. Initially working as an intern, I proved myself a valuable asset and became a regular freelance designer. I designed branding, promotional material and advertising campaigns with a very quick turn around., Schön Magazine, Graphic Design Intern, Dec 10, I spent two weeks at the headquarters of fashion magazine Schön where I designed the layout of various articles and photoshoots. Working in the fast-paced environment of a fashion publication, I proved my ability to meet and exceed expectations even when under significant time pressure., The Gateway Newspaper, Graphic Design Intern, Oct 10, The Gateway is a bi-weekly newspaper distributed to the top 10 business schools in the UK. After graduating I interned at the paper for two weeks as a Junior Designer. I laid out two issues according to the newspaper’s brand guidelines. I discovered that I thrived under the pressure to meet deadlines; producing work swiftly without compromising on quality remains one of my key strengths.
