About me
The White Swan Pub in Barton-upon-Humber is an independent award winning Ale and Cider House. The building in part is Grade II listed and, was originally a Coaching Inn dating back five hundred years. We have an eclectic mix of patrons and, a glimmer of ghosts.
Hospitality is fraught with pitfalls in the current economic climate, but this independent pub, owned and managed by Lisa Horrocks, aims to beat the trend of failing pubs, sadly with daily closures, which is a tradegy for local communities.
Thus, our aim is to find an artistic creative way of marketing the White Swan. We have no designs on creating something the White Swan is not, it's a local pub, selling quality ale, independent ciders and regional whisky to ale enthusiasts and, discerning customers who want to relax with family and friends. We don't do TV, slot machines, just background music which creates an old school pub ambiance for Pub People.
We do want to rock the world, but keep our feet firmly on the ground.
My job, as the Pubs Wayfinder Director, which is voluntary, is finding a way with a very limited budget to create a sustainable future, re investing any profits back into our hospitality plan which includes enabling apprenticeship schemes and re training in the hospitality sector, which isn't something high on young people's plans.
My experience, an award winning published nurse in A&E and founder of a football charity which was an official participant in the FIFA World Cup in South Africa 2010 to building a small Magical Garden Co, whilst semi-retired. I've since come out of retirement to enthusiastically help my partner Lisa to build an empire, I don't know why, because I could be sat on a beach in Spain drinking cocktails all day, but then I was never one to miss a challenge and, why would I swap the muddy colour of the River Humber to the Mediterranean.
