We worked directly with Checkatrade on an open brief to create six sponsorship bumpers for Good Morning Britain’s National Weather, featuring animated tradespeople. As sponsorship bumpers, these could not directly advertise Checkatrade, but should have a thematic link to weather.
Built around the concept of ‘turning your house into a home…’, our approach was to create an aspirational, loved and lived-in family home that the home-owning audience would relate to, where we could show friendly and professional Checkatrade tradespeople diligently working. Each bumper begins with a semi abstract shot to build intrigue, before showing an appealing character at work. To strongly bond the ideas of pride in the home, professionalism and the Checkatrade brand together, the second half of the bumper cuts to a wide reveal where the house turns to become the Checkatrade tick, with a unique micro weather system above. This unexpected reveal of the house as the logo, along with the weather and sonic ident creates a clever and impactful closing shot to the bumper for great memorability.
We took the project from our initial concepts through the full design and storyboarding process, onto 2D Animatics, 3D Previz, 3D Animation, Post, Audio Production and Delivery. The CGI was handled with Autodesk’s 3DS Max along with Zbrush, Hair Farm and Multiscatter and rendered with OctaneRender.
