Those of a certain age might recall (or have reviled) a television series that went under the title of ‘Follyfoot’, based on Monica Dickens' 1963 novel, Cobbler's Dream.
Have to admit, not being a horsey-person, the programme was of limited interest but given the series ran from 1971 until 1976, having anything to watch was reward enough. And frankly, I’d watch anything.
There was a back-story - which I completely missed, being a bit dense - of a theme on how horses (and by implication, people) rejected by society could be given another chance. Full of archetypes you see.
Quite why this should have remained in the bin-fire of my memory however, wasn’t due to any of that, but the amazing theme tune - The Lightening Tree by folkWig-ers The Sellers. You’ll hate me when you listen it up (if you’re not familiar.) It’ll annoying you for days.
The promptRetrieval of the ditty was, I think, seeing an actual lighting tree earlier in the week (a bleached, blasted Silver-Birch) and thinking how apposite something that channels electric storms is as a metaphor for the creative world.
If you’re sitting around right now, waiting for (non-lethal lighting) inspiration to strike, have a little pick through some old TV theme tunes. There’s gold (even if it’s Fools) in them there hills.
