About me

I am currently working as a reporter for the Wakefield and Pontefract & Castleford Guardian newspapers. The Wakefield Guardian is a recently launched paper and has a small editorial staff. Because of this I have had experience of every different area of reporting, including weekly sports coverage, court reporting, interviewing local councillors and MPs, and talking to the police. In the three months I have been at the paper I have covered major stories such as the hunt for missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews. I have also had to produce copy quickly on unexpected incidents such as the recent earthquake and major road accidents. Additionally I put together the paper's entertainment section, 'The Pulse', and write a weekly column entitled 'Weird World' which is a round-up of bizarre news stories. In addition to this I have written extensively for Sandman Magazine, where my music reviews have been well received. Within West Yorkshire I have also written for numerous fanzines as my interest in journalism developed out of music journalism. I have also undertaken work experience at the York Press, the Brighton Argus and the Maidenhead Advertiser. At the Brighton Argus one of my assignments was to shadow their web content editor, where I gained an insight into journalism and writing for the web.
