Dear Sir/Madam,
I am a Broadcasting (BA Hons) graduate from the University of Leeds and I have been living and working in Vancouver, Canada for the past year. I decided to take the time out, visit a country I had always wanted to see and have an adventure. I am now back in the UK, feeling confident, ambitious and looking to start a career. Having been able to develop a critical writing skill through a wide range of assignments and a variety of work situations, along with a creative background in TV and the media, I feel I would be a strong candidate for the position of Junior Copywriter.
As you can see from my CV, I have written within a variety of contexts: email templates to send to customers, story outlines, scripts, research briefs, prose, pieces to camera and court room logs, each one posing different challenges but showing the versatility of my writing. Within the positions I held, my inventiveness and accuracy has shone through, and meant that I gained invaluable experience in creating text for a wide range of target audiences. Through my jobs in the television industry and through my work with Leeds Student Television, I continually worked in pressurised situations and to tight deadlines, showing success with a nomination for a National Student Television Award (NaSTA), for my self-produced entertainment show.
Writing is something I have always enjoyed. Looking back at my previous employments, I have found that the one constant thread running through them all that excited me, that continued to bring the best out of me, was the writing assignments. I am a person who thrives in a creative environment and having the chance to test my ingenuity on a daily basis is something that drives me. With my experience of working with other mediums, a strong attention to detail and my developed skill of matching images to words, I believe I can capitalise on this and succeed as a copywriter.
Having lived 'up North' my entire life, I am eager to take the step and move to London, and would relish the opportunity to live in a big city again. Hopefully, on review of my CV you are able to see the potential I have to develop into a valuable member of your client's company.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Richard
