About me

Ria was recruited at a young age by the god Hermes to the craft of writing. Through by-lines in local newspapers and magazines, school and college publications, and private journals that held her adolescent poems, writing became the mainstay of her life.

Despite this love and proclivity towards the written word, Ria found herself pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Science and Mathematics, followed by an MBA in General Management. After all, as an Indian kid growing up in the '90s, this path seemed like a rite of passage.

It was a purely circumstantial choice in hopes of embarking on a steady career. But deep in her heart, Ria knew that she would rather weather the storms of writing than eke out a soulless IT career.

So despite graduating with honours, she decided to forgo the charms of the tech world and instead whittled words for the higher education company, the Princeton Review.

After a seven-year stint and learning the ins and outs of the writing business, Ria ventured out as a freelance writer.

Since 2016, Ria has been working under the banner of a food industry copywriter. Although, truthfully, she has written for myriad other industries, notably HR, wellness, IT, retail, a sports goods manufacturer, and a lifestyle brand.

To abet her transition from in-house to freelance writer, Ria bolstered her copywriting skills. She completed several courses from American Writers and Artists Institute (AWAI), including email marketing, digital copywriting, newsletter marketing, and B2B copywriting. She is also a certified SEO Copywriter from the SEO Copywriting Institute as well as the Yoast Academy.

The reason Ria has been focusing her writing on the food industry, apart from her incomparable love for food, is the expansive nature of this industry. Recently, a spotlight was shined on how food is political. The truth is, food is everything.

Food encompasses the smallest celebrations, greatest freedoms, biggest apartheids, strangest notions, hapless wastes, decadent luxuries, bitterest arguments, and deepest loves.

And the frenzied months of the Covid-19 pandemic have once again laid bare the importance and inequities of this industry.

That's why Ria aims to work with businesses that are changing the food industry for the better, bringing wholesome food to people, following sustainable practices that help the planet, and eradicating biases that cripple food systems.

Should you want a copywriter on your team who is not only dedicated to the craft and passionate about food but is blessed by Hermes, please email her.
