About me
At present I am a Multimedia Broadcast Journalist with BBC Africa Children's News. My role is to produce, present and report on what children are doing to change their lives in Africa and during the year I have been in this role I have completed my first foreign trip to Guinea as presenter/reporter. I developed six story packages from this trip. Prior to this I worked as a Multimedia Broadcast Journalist at BBC Focus on Africa. Here, I worked on a daily news bulletin, as a producer, I brought in and interviewed high profile guests like Miguna Miguna (Kenya), Joyce Banda (former the president of Malawi), Issa Tchiroma (Cameroon). I reported on political, economic and social issues from protests in London about the Cameroon anglophone crisis to anti-Kabila protests and shining the light on social stigma, like the difficulty that the transgender community face in Africa.
Prior to this I have been working at Vox Africa for 3 years as a freelance Journalist.
My work varied from news reporting to producing entertainment after show of 'The Voice Afrique francophone'. ( a Franchise of 'The Voice'). During this time I covered and reported on a range of issues: protests, (Gambian activists) conferences, events, art and culture. I worked in a very busy and high pressured news room and found my first role of working in live Television both exciting and dynamic. Here I gained experience of researching stories, filming and creating off site reporting packages, which included camera work and editing to tight deadlines.
This has given me an understanding of the complete process of production and of the role of a Broadcast Journalist and would assist me in supporting others going through the same process when in this role.
My time at the BBC has inducted me into the processes and procedures within the organisation. I have also created extensive relationships across the different departments, networking and creating successful contacts, which has enabled me to present stories on multiple platforms.
Throughout this time I have worked on my own personal projects. For example I planned, funded, filmed and edited my own documentary on female Mountain Guides in Nepal which won an award. Further to this I have creative ideas about future human interest documentaries.
I now feel that I am ready for a leadership role with the years of experience that I have. I believe that my character and abilities; good decision making, quick thinking, calmness under pressure, willingness and ability to make relationships and listen and understand people make me an ideal candidate to now grow these and learn additional abilities from a leadership course. These abilities added to my maturity, and technical skills give me the passion and drive to want to not only pass these skills on to others but to have a chance at testing myself in a leadership role. I believe that going on a leadership course will not only help me achieve this but it will also help me help others to grow themselves and their own abilities.
