About me
I have recently graduated from the University of Reading with a 2:1 degree in Design for Graphic Communication and Typography BA. Experience at your company will provide me with a real practical side to my degree, which will greatly compliment it and give me a greater sense of knowledge and confidence in the design sector.
With regards to myself, I believe I have the necessary skill sets to really take advantage any opportunity you could offer. I have experience working on briefs independently and as part of a group. Independent work has included my position of Student designer for the Students Union, which I have worked at for over a year. In this position, I have been required to create a variety of printed items for advertising events and logo design for a range of societies. The briefs have been on a strict time scale, which have greatly enhanced my time management skills and enabled me to think quickly about new ideas and design concepts. I have also had experience working on professional projects at University, taking part in client meetings and briefings. This has given me an insight into working closely with clients and has shown my ability to communicate ideas and concepts efficiently. As part of this module, I have recently designed a 300 page book and cover design for the University English department, which required strict typographic detailing and typesetting. This book is due to be published in early September 2011. I especially enjoyed this project, using my eye for detail with micro typography to progress with my passion for editorial design.
Many of my projects have maintained a strong brand identity, developing design aspects that translate across a range of different mediums and products, from music branding, editorial design and stationery. This experience has enhanced my enjoyment and ability for branding design.
Although only working on a handful of web and digital design projects, I am excited to learn more and progress in such an expanding and vital part of design.
Last year, I completed a four month placement as part of the graphic design team for the established architecture company, Barton Willmore. This involved designing marketing material for the company as well as many official documents including tenders and design and access statements, while convening with many of the partners and directors.
I consider myself highly competent with design orientated software, especially Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, as I have been using these programmes continuously for the past five years. I am also literate in MS Word and Powerpoint, with knowledge of both Mac and PC operating systems.
I hope that, on consideration of my CV, you will be persuaded of my potential to perform well and to make a real contribution as a member of your company. I am more than willing to relocate and I can be available for an interview at any time. I look forward to hearing from you.
