To whom it may concern,

I am writing to apply for the Freelance Copywriter position. I completed a Journalism degree at Liverpool John Moores University and received a 2:1. I have worked as a PR Assistant at Sleepmode and I also did PR work for their sister companies Highgate Beds and Sueno. I currently work as a Customer Assistant at Boots.

I believe that my experience makes me a good candidate for this position. I have experience of writing copy, during my final year I specialised in print journalism and produced a weekly newspaper with other students. This required me to source and produce a variety of original news stories and features. As well as writing stories during the week I was also required to produce 'on the day' stories that had to be written to a tight deadline. I completed a module on online journalism in which I learnt the appropriate writing style for online news websites. I also contributed work to the course's website, *, which I uploaded to the website along with photographs and links to accompany the articles. Writing for different mediums and audiences helped me to develop the ability to switch between different tones of voice. Working on the newspaper involved sticking to guidelines, length and delivering on time to ensure my articles fitted into their allotted space on the page and was placed into the newspaper on time.

Whilst working as a PR Assistant at Sleepmode I developed an understanding of the importance of a strong brand. During my time there I wrote copy for their website, social media pages and blog. I also wrote press releases and news articles to be included in the local press and trade media, this involved writing copy about new products and ensuring I did them justice and gained the editor and readers' interest.

I have completed work experience at the Telegraph and Argus, a Bradford newspaper. During the placement I produced content that was published in the newspaper, this required me to research the articles and contact people for quotes. I have also completed a placement at Sugar magazine. During this placement I carried out research for features and came up with feature ideas for future issues. During a month-long work placement at Bonner and Hindley Communications I wrote news stories about the company and its clients that were posted on various websites, I also wrote articles for the Sheffield Star newspaper and Wizzit magazine.

I can work to strict deadlines, during my time at university I had multiple assignments and projects that were due around a similar deadline. I had to prioritise the research and writing involved and carefully plan the time spent on each piece of work to ensure all the work was produced on time to the best of my abilities. I also worked to deadlines at Sleepmode and during my work placements. I work well in teams both as a leader and a team member. I have a full, clean driving licence and own my own car.
