About me

The work is inspired by English Literature; in particular, adult narrative. The images manifest themselves in various visual forms, for example life drawing, print making, collage etc. The work aims to communicate the atmosphere of a set novel whilst focusing on creating characters that the viewer can relate to the text. Aimed at an older audience, the images produced are visually stimulating and encourage a more intellectual response. The imagery which surrounds each character represents their personality, and as a result much of the work produced is thought provoking as the colours are also carefully selected to symbolise meaning behind the characters.

The media used in the work is primarily mixed and is used in a traditional way. Initially many drawings are rendered from life as this gives a basic body and facial structure upon which to base the characters on. Drawing from life also gives the characters energy and movement. It is important to capture the energy of the character to show their mechanisms as humans. Ink pens are used specifically for this purpose as using them in a quick fashion lends well to mimicking the characteristics of human beings.
