About me

My name is Rakesh MIstry and I am currently on my placement year at Aedas Architects in Manchester. I have completed the first part of my architecture degree at the Leicester School Of Architecture.

Working for Aedas I have developed a significant number of skills including completing planning drawings, creating 3d models, schedules and administration.

Ever since I began working for Aedas in 2004 I have been involved with schools.

Presently I am working within a team of 20 to develop designs for the development of learning centres within the Knowsley region. Here the design of the centre are based around the concept of the creation of learning bases that are open planned and flexible. Significant studies were carried out to determine how children interact with each other. These learning centres will not only be schools but during the evening, be open to the community.

Sustainablity was one of the modules I studied at degree level. The creation of a building that used the concept of evaporative downdraft cooling, intrested me.

Whereby cool air from the outside is brought into a building driven my mircronisers, that chill the air. Exhaust stale air is removed through the building by openings at high level. I particularly am intrested in the scientific studies carried out to prove that the method works. Computer modelling programmes, Ecotect for example can be used. Physical models are used, salt tank methods are debatably more accurate.
