About me
London based HOW both for screen and stage for different scales of shows, I have been covering different roles among costume and wardrobe departments nationally and internationally. . Studying fashion and costume in Rome and London gave me a good knowledge of period fashion as well as fabrics and textures. I am a good researcher when it comes to find inspirations for new designs, a trained painter and sketchers which is a very useful skill for dealing with directors, producers and makers. As I also work as Head of Wardrobe and Assistant, I well know what issues these roles usually face during prep, rehearsal times and this allows me to be more efficient and capable of combining a creative design with a sensible schedule in order to maintain a serene and efficient work environment. As a costume designer, I consider myself a storyteller whose tools are clothing and accessories. The best design can really help performers portraying their characters and it helps the audience to engage with the show. Color palettes, textures and shapes can literally transform the appearance of any performer and I think this is part of the magic of working among theatre and TV/ movie productions.
I also worked for costumes houses during prep back in Italy (Farani, Sartoria dell'Opera di Parma) as well as here in the UK when I spent one year in Sheffield, working for Molly Limpets Theatrical Emporium where I had prepared many musical and theatrical shows following costume plots and dealing with producers and client on a tight weekly schedule. This kind of experience gives me an extensive knowledge of how the whole process works and a wide set of skills which are very useful when it comes to organize, manage and maintain costumes during a full run show, from prep in to final get out. I can run a department from the costume fittings, through tech rehearsals and the full run of a show, taking care of maintenance, laundry calls, alterations, costume plots, pre-setting and quick changes. I am very keen on assisting performer and help them not only on costume related matters but also to guarantee a general pleasant work environment, my main goal is to make them feel safe and gain their trust in order to maintain all wardrobe duties in the most efficient way. Capable to work independently as well as among a team and as a leader who always pays attention to find the best combination of practical solutions, listening to any valuable suggestions, giving people space and trust but also understanding when some directions are needed. I truly believe that when people can express their natural skills, when given some tasks, it becomes much easier to coordinate the whole process and working can also be fun. Flexibility is one of my best skills, I think that being able to adapt to any possible circumstance and finding the right strategy in a quick time is the best way to solve problems. Having designed some costumes myself, I have a very good eye for details, fashion periods as well as a very crafted approach in case some solutions are needed to create new pieces, recycle existing costumes and materials or purchasing the right item to complete a wardrobe and a designer's vision.
Hardworking, calm under pressure, highly organized, a proper problem solver!
