Freelance Writer

I'll start off by telling you about myself, I graduated from the University of Manchester last year with a 2.1 MChem degree (Masters in Chemistry) and since then have found myself working in technical roles; currently work as a lab technician at the University of Manchester's new National Graphene Institute. I've recently started to realise that science is not the area I want to spend my life working in and I have a creative side that I'm desperate to use!

I am looking for work within the journalism industry as I feel it would be the perfect outlet for both my creativity and technical skills. In my spare time I run a small lifestyle blog for which I take on various tasks including; deciding on content, writing and editing the posts, taking photographs and editing these using Photoshop as well as designing the overall look of the site and keeping up to date on social media. Writing a blog in my spare time takes many skills such as; spotting trends within the community e.g. popular post styles or current beauty trends and utilising this on my own blog, excellent writing skills which I have developed from 4 years at University (including a 60 page dissertation!) and a passion for the for writing! Otherwise I wouldn't be able to keep up my consistent content. I generally work alone but have also collaborated with brands and freelance writers and am currently working on a food post with florette.

I believe that I would have the necessary skills to make the most of an opportunity; I have a vast amount of technical experience from taking on a technical degree, spending time in industry and now being back in a technical educational environment - I'm no stranger to inputting large formulas into excel! I have creative flair and attention to detail expressed in terms of my crafting hobbies (knitting and photography), I am definitely a mulit-tasker, my current job role has me working across two building simultaneously and in my spare time I have a small lifestyle blog. My communication skills are excellent from having spent 6 years working part time in customer service (whilst at high school/college/university) and this has also given me much experience problem solving - after all the customer is always right.
