ABOUT
Established in Scotland, Vanilla Labs is redefining one of the world’s most ubiquitous yet misunderstood natural ingredients through controlled cultivation, precise curing and traceability. In a global vanilla market where constant demand is stifled by inconsistent, opaque supply chains, their proposition is exciting — authentic, terroir-driven vanilla with measurable provenance from pod to palate.
Each bean cured to exacting, repeatable standards for truly profile-led vanilla suitable for everything from artisanal ice cream and cookery to large-scale NPD.
Working closely with the founders, our challenge was to create an identity that could hold sensory depth, scientific rigour and understated elegance in careful balance — a brand that would feel as refined and disciplined as the process behind it. The concept aligns precision of process with clarity of expression.
Typography is at the heart of all Vanilla Labs’ assets — a delicate blend of three distinct typefaces: Arizona, Andralis, and Univers. With this, we looked to establish the premium position the brand required — able to sit alongside renowned chefs, celebrated restaurants, high-end perfumery and luxe lifestyle products. The approach is defined by technical hierarchy balanced with understated warmth. Compositions are structured, deliberate and measured — avoiding overly decorative food tropes in favour of restraint.
A neutral, tonal palette moves from pale vanilla bean to deep cured brown, expressing the material reality of vanilla without leaning on heritage clichés. The visual system echoes botanical classification: ordered, modular and systematic. Batch codes, origin markers, release dates and aromatic notes are elevated to hero status throughout. They are treated with the same care as the flavour compounds within each batch of vanilla. Packaging materials are understated but deliberate — tactile and simple, conveying confidence without ornament. Across packaging, tasting cards and digital environments, this identity positions Vanilla Labs not simply as a premium producer, but also a category creator that seamlessly moves between the laboratory, atelier and premium lifestyle spaces. In a sector where rustic cues and nostalgic storytelling are the go-to, Vanilla Labs introduces a more exacting aesthetic — grounded in transparency, traceability and measured craft. The result is a disciplined, scalable identity system that reframes vanilla as a product of precision rather than chance.
