ABOUT
There were over 100 diperences that deny same-sex couples equal rights in the Czech Republic. That’s a huge barrier. Unfortunately, for public and political leaders this limiting and useless barrier remains completely invisible, as they falsely thought that registered couples enjoy the same rights as marriage. But what looks the same, is not the same once you experience it.
The problem needed a symbol that illustrates the issue very simply and personally. To make politicians finally experience this barrier firsthand, we have created The Unwearable Ring. The wedding ring that looks just like any other ring until you put it on... because you cannot. The transparent sapphire glass inside the ring representing the barriers Czech same-sex couples face every day will not let you.
We sent The Unwearable Ring to major decision makers in our country to propose a change in the law. To make the pressure on politicians even bigger, we sent our rings also to popular influencers and influential journalists.
In just one week, we have reached almost 70% of the population and sparked a national conversation. The ring got endorsed on the social media by the most influential leaders of governing political parties, including Markéta Pekarová Adamová, the Chairwoman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic.
We have gained more than 50 non-paid major media outputs, thousands of supportive comments and most importantly – we have changed the law to get more rights for same-sex couples in our country, including the most wanted one: right to adopt a stepchild. The Unwearable Ring was introduced in the most watched morning show and discussed on numerous local radio stations, including the most popular ones.
