ABOUT

Concept
The Vessel is a premium decanter packaging concept that reimagines the bottle as more than a container. Inspired by tabletop role-playing culture and the iconic D20 dice, it transforms packaging into a reusable artefact, a collectible centrepiece and a gateway into an immersive storytelling world.

Created as a self-briefed professional concept, The Vessel was designed to sit at the intersection of luxury spirits, gaming culture, smart packaging, sustainability and transmedia storytelling. Its purpose was to explore how physical packaging could become part of the story itself, encouraging people to pause, pour, play and participate.

The multi-faceted form removes the idea of a traditional front or back, inviting the user to rotate, handle and explore the bottle from every angle. Hidden ciphers, cryptic symbols, Nordic-inspired alphabets, AR triggers and NFC touch-points build a sense of discovery, making the pack feel as though it contains more than a spirit... it contains a world waiting to be unlocked.

At its heart, The Vessel is a tribute to the creativity, inclusivity and shared imagination of the fantasy RPG community. It challenges the boundaries of packaging by combining premium craft, interactive technology and evolving narrative content into one connected brand experience.

Execution
The Vessel brings together structural design, tactile craft, smart technology and immersive worldbuilding.

The bottle is formed from recycled glass with a D20-inspired, multi-faceted structure that encourages interaction from every angle. FSC-certified recycled labels, low-impact foils, embossing, varnish and die-cut detailing create a premium, layered finish, while hand-finished components add variation, texture and an artefact-like quality.

A bespoke visual language was developed using straight-edged geometry, cryptic symbols, Beaux-Arts-inspired detail and a Nordic-influenced alphabet system. These elements allow the concept to move seamlessly between fantasy, sci-fi, horror and other narrative worlds while maintaining a distinctive and premium identity.

Mechanical, cryptex-style elements were built into the sleeve, collar and body, creating moments of puzzle-like interaction. Hidden barcodes, tracking devices and NFC touchpoints unlock digital layers including AR experiences, secret scenes, playlists, missions, lore and future story chapters.

The concept was brought to life through 3D visualisation, handcrafted detailing, supporting imagery and video, demonstrating how The Vessel could work as both a luxury spirits pack and a multi-platform storytelling experience. The physical bottle remains the hero, with technology used to deepen the connection rather than distract from the object itself.

Results
As a professional conceptual project, The Vessel demonstrates how packaging can evolve from a static object into an active, participatory brand experience.

The concept responds to a growing challenge in modern packaging: how to create deeper emotional connection in a market where consumers increasingly value experience, authenticity, sustainability and interaction. By combining a reusable decanter, crafted finishes, hidden technology and evolving narrative content, The Vessel creates value beyond the initial purchase.

Designed to be kept, refilled, displayed and revisited, the project supports long-term engagement and a more sustainable approach to premium packaging. Its refillable format, responsible materials and collectible nature encourage longevity rather than disposal.

The Vessel also opens clear commercial opportunities across limited-edition spirits, gaming collaborations, collector releases, experiential campaigns, live events and digital storytelling platforms. Its flexible narrative system allows the brand world to expand across genres, media and communities over time.

Ultimately, The Vessel reframes packaging as a platform for discovery, storytelling and connection. It proves that a bottle can be more than a vessel for liquid... it can become a centrepiece for play, participation and an evolving brand world.
