ABOUT

Lancashire Council are planning to turn Parbold Hill into
a landfill site, turning a picturesque village into an industrial waste ground. The adding of 125,000 tonnes of material onto an unstable base would not only visually destroy the area but also could have huge natural effects. Scientific studies have also found that families living near hazardous waste sites have an increased risk of birth defects, low birth weight,
and respiratory disease.

The Idea

We created a candle that mimic the odour created by landfills. Making residents experience the effects before they have to live with them.

The top layer of the candle used fragrances synonymous
with the local countryside, Lavender, Bergamot and Rosemary.
However underneath lay the scent resembling Ammonium
Sulphide, the unpleasant smell released by landfills.

The candles were sent to residents of Parbold village to act as
an early warning of what is to come if they don’t act now and sign the petition.
