Just Global Emeryville

ABOUT

Cloudera helped invent the modern data era. By 2025, that history had become a liability.

As AI captured boardroom attention and enterprise IT budgets shifted, Cloudera faced a perception problem: it was still widely seen as a "big data company" — relevant to a previous cycle, not the current one. Yet its actual capability was the most important piece of infrastructure in the AI era. Cloudera offers unified, governed access to 100% of enterprise data across cloud, on-premises and edge environments without migration. In a world where most AI projects were underperforming because they ran on fragmented architectures never designed for AI, Cloudera was the answer enterprises didn't know they needed.

The task for Just Global was a full brand repositioning – not a campaign launch.

Objectives:

Shift Cloudera's market perception from legacy data platform to AI-era infrastructure leader
Build credibility with two distinct audiences simultaneously: C-suite executives focused on competitive advantage and business outcomes, and technical IT decision-makers demanding architectural depth
Break through a crowded, increasingly homogenized AI and data market
Prove that brand investment directly influences pipeline and revenue
Scale globally across AMER, LATAM, EMEA and APJC rapidly, given the pace of competitive positioning in the category
Target Audience & Insight:

Two audiences. Fundamentally different motivations.

C-suite (CEOs, CDOs, CIOs) across Forbes 2000 accounts — These buyers aren't evaluating infrastructure. They're managing competitive risk and justifying AI investment to boards. Messaging needed to land a single uncomfortable truth: running AI on fragmented data isn't a technical inconvenience — it's a strategic liability that undermines the entire investment.
Technical decision-makers - IT architects and data platform leads - This audience evaluates on architectural credibility. They need confidence that Cloudera can unify their environments without forcing a costly, disruptive migration. Messaging needed to demonstrate depth and specificity, not just aspiration.
Both audiences needed to be reached through messaging and creative that carried technical credibility and executive resonance.

The insight that unified them: AI doesn't fail because ambition is too big. It fails because it can't see the full picture. Partial data means partial intelligence.

Most enterprises were running AI on siloed, fragmented environments producing intelligence built on incomplete information. Cloudera's ability to unify those environments, without forcing migration, reframed the conversation from "which AI platform?" to "can your AI see all your data?" — a question only Cloudera could answer, and one that mattered equally to both audiences.

Challenges:

Cloudera had recently undergone a rebrand, requiring careful alignment with new guidelines while producing work bold enough to stand out.
Key proof points were NDA-restricted, limiting what could be said publicly
Internal stakeholders were numerous and deeply invested in the brand’s direction
A positioning term — "True Hybrid" — championed internally was already live in-market before feedback confirmed it wasn’t resonating externally.
The strategic approach was to reframe Cloudera’s positioning entirely. Cloudera needed a platform — something ownable, scalable, and built to shift category perception rather than just update it. The goal was category-level: change what enterprise leaders believe AI requires, and own that conversation before a competitor did.

Execution

The campaign was built around a deliberately simple, scalable construct: The ___ Era.

This headline framework did three things simultaneously. It signaled transformation. It connected Cloudera's legacy of deep technical credibility with an unambiguously forward-looking thesis. And it created an ownable verbal system flexible enough to work across industries, audiences and geographies without losing coherence. The specific expression — The AI Anywhere Era — made the positioning explicit: AI that reaches every corner of the enterprise, not just the parts that happen to live in a single cloud.

A single line served as the strategic bridge between past and future: Reinventing data. Again.

Rather than erasing Cloudera's history, the campaign leveraged it. The company that helped define big data was now defining how AI works — not a reinvention from scratch, but an assertion of earned, continued leadership.

Visually, connector elements drawn from Cloudera's own brand mark became the central design device — symbolizing the unification of fragmented data environments. The creative demonstrated what the platform does, while grounding abstract technical capability in the imagery of real businesses and real outcomes. The result was work that felt bold without being impenetrable, and aspirational without losing credibility.

Mid-campaign recalibration

One of the campaign's defining moments came mid-flight. As "True Hybrid" continued to underperform in external market feedback, the team chose to evolve the entire messaging platform while the campaign was live — shifting to "AI Anywhere" across creative, media and content simultaneously. This required coordinated recalibration across every channel and region without breaking campaign momentum.

The agility demonstrated in-market mirrored the very value Cloudera offers its customers: responsive, adaptive, and built for a world that doesn't wait.

Channel strategy

The campaign activated across a fully integrated brand-to-demand ecosystem:

Paid social: LinkedIn, Reddit, Meta, X — including Reddit Freeform units to reach high-value technical audiences in contextual environments where they actively engage
CTV and video for brand narrative at scale
High-impact display including Bloomberg placements for executive reach
Organic thought leadership reinforcing strategic credibility
Long-form content — whitepapers, eBooks, checklists — serving technical decision-makers deeper in the funnel
Dedicated landing experiences designed to convert brand exposure into measurable action
Localized translations activating the strategy across all global regions
Channel selection was deliberately intelligence-led. Competitor analysis identified X, Reddit and Meta as underutilized platforms in the category — creating genuine whitespace to own rather than outspend.

Implementation

The campaign rolled out in phases, with AMER launching first before expanding across EMEA, APAC and LATAM. The underlying structure followed a clear strategic logic: disrupt category perception through high-impact storytelling formats, reinforce through contextual placements and sequential messaging, and build trust through thought leadership and credible publisher environments. Measurement was built into the architecture from the start — including multi-touch attribution, brand lift studies, path-to-conversion analysis, and account-level brand-to-demand reporting — ensuring the campaign could demonstrate impact at every stage of the funnel.

Results

The campaign was measured against perception shift, dual-audience credibility, competitive breakthrough, brand-to-revenue proof, and global scale.

Global scale:

409M+ total impressions across AMER, LATAM, EMEA and APJC
92% of Forbes 2000 target accounts reached with 100+ impressions
82% reached with 1,000+ impressions
303K+ landing page visits
Competitive efficiency:
60% lower CPM vs. prior year
58% more cost-efficient traffic delivery
75% increase in form fills
In a category dominated by well-funded competitors, near-total Forbes 2000 penetration at significantly lower cost is not an efficiency story. It is evidence of a smarter strategy winning.

Brand-to-demand impact:

Video exposure increased landing page engagement by 54%
Brand exposure increased form submission likelihood 2.3x on Google, 2.6x on LinkedIn
Search visitors converted at 2.5x higher rates when previously exposed to brand messaging
Revenue influence:

$380M in Closed/Won opportunities influenced by the brand campaign
Average deal size nearly doubled for brand-influenced opportunities
Perception shift doesn't show up in a single metric. It shows up across all of them. When brand exposure makes buyers 2.6x more likely to act, 2.5x more likely to convert, and nearly doubles the value of influenced deals — the market has changed its mind.
