ABOUT
Ktima Bellou is a Luxury Farm Hotel nestled in the foothills of Mount Olympus. It has been family-owned since 1860 and has been organic for more than three decades. Its heart lies in the very birthplace of the Creative Muses and the Olympic home of their mentor, Apollo. A place for curious minds to relax and also to fly with creativity in the unique and inspirational environment. It is a working farm, so guests can collect honey, create essential oil from rose petals, rosemary and lavender that is harvested amongst other abundant produce on site, which also supplies the hotel’s acclaimed restaurant. The hotel owners work hard and creatively to provide an effortless environment for their guests. In Greek, the word for butterfly is ‘psyche’ which also translates as ‘soul’ or ‘that which animates.' In mythology, Psyche was a mortal who was loved by the god Eros and who eventually became the Goddess of the Soul. Thus the butterfly is a befitting metaphor for the hotel and its ethos.
All media was considered in the brand roll-out, with an initial focus on social media and stationery.
The branding revolves around a stylised monogram of Ktima Bellou’s initials, whilst also echoing the profile of the Parnassius Apollo butterfly’s wings, a species endemic to Ktima Bellou's land and of course the namesake of Apollo himself and a representation of the Muses. The deep regal purple reflects the luxury of the hotel combined with its humble roots in nature and the sweet lavender fields surrounding it, which in turn attracts more butterflies.
The logomark is combined into a suite of lockups and colour ways to serve the many graphic applications required by the hotel's visual identity.
The brand has been used as a case study in brand development at UC Berkeley by Yannis Michaelides, an industry guru who played a pivotal role in the creation of the brief and its development.
All visual aspects have been produced by Range Left. Especial thanks are extended to Yannis Michaellides, Founder of H&T Beyond Tourism, for his amazing formulation and distillation of the brief and the brand’s Tone of Voice.
