Sophie Carpenter Freelance graphic designer and illustrator

ABOUT

The UK Centre for Carnival Arts are dedicated to strengthening the Carnival Arts Sector across the UK, and their annual carnival showcases Luton’s rich cultural heritage and unique creativity.

The brief called for a refresh of the existing LIC brand identity for application across a variety of promotional materials, including bus streetliners, lamppost banners, billboards, Mall screens, posters, flyers and magazine adverts.

I introduced a bold brush font and painted background blocks in order to reflect the vibrant, hand-crafted nature of the carnival. These blocks also made it easier to adapt the designs to the wide variety of formats required.

The promotional materials emphasised the fun, family-friendly nature of the event and helped to attract a large audience to the carnival.

CLIENT REVIEW

I worked on a freelance basis with the UK Centre for Carnival Arts to project manage all the marketing of the 2019 Luton Carnival. I commissioned Sophie to produce all our graphics - from outdoor displays to printed leaflets. It was a pleasure to work with Sophie. I particularly like her approach - she listens but makes great suggestions. She was very patient with us, as there were quite a few changes for each item, and had some really creative ideas which helped evolve the finished designs beyond what we could have hoped for at briefing stage. I will definitely work with Sophie again and would highly recommend.
