Circus London

ABOUT

PR agency Porter Novelli hired CIRCUS to help develop a disease awareness campaign on behalf of Kyowa Kirin, a Japan-based global specialty pharmaceutical company, as they had some beautiful imagery that they wanted to house in an exhibition space, to make the content available to the widest possible audience. The goal was to create an exhibition that could educate people about the disease, tell patient stories, provide resources for those impacted, while keeping people engaged throughout the exhibition.

To make this vision a reality, CIRCUS took the collection of digitally made-up patient portraits, and designed a custom 3D space in which to virtually hang them, which was embellished with graphic features, virtual projections and rendered using Redshift.

The portraits form part of a wider campaign which aims to ‘shine a light’ on XLH as a condition, and so light was a major theme in the design. From the custom light-trail web cursor, to the varying lighting treatments in each of the rooms, to the glowing light trail which guides users through the rooms of the exhibition. Users are able to view each step of the exhibition as a high-resolution 360 scene, interacting with rich media content and immersing themselves in the space. Then move around using cut-scene animations to create the sense of movement and realism.

The exhibition is broken down into 3 rooms. Room 1 gives background information about the disease and its phenomenology; Room 2 showcases the patients and their stories; Room 3 is the resource centre, where visitors can find out how to support the cause, access information PDFs, and share their experiences on social media - driving engagement, awareness and impact.

Our accuracy to the brief went above and beyond expectations. Not only did we create the virtual exhibition, but we created content that could be used within a Metaverse or VR context too, something that has extended the life cycle and reach of this virtual experience. Success was measured against the approval of people living with and impacted by XLH and Kyowa Kirin who had commissioned the work. The use of this virtual exhibition will be used for years to come and all parties are extremely happy with the end result.
