ABOUT

THREE YEARS AND ONE MONTH LATER, AS WAS THE OWNER MURDERED FOR HIS BICYCLE SO TOO, IT'S GONE...
========= // =========

On May 1st 2020, COVID restrictions were eased from 06:00 – 09:00 for folks to stroll about the outdoors. As daylight breaks, so do early morning hues beckon my camera toward a "Ghost Bicycle" –a sombre commemoration to a local murderer for his bike.

With each early dawn, so colours express subtle nuances –as if the 'ghost' in bicycle taunts me with her mesmeric yarns; implausible and haunting perhaps, but these mood swings offer great photogenic opportunities!
I've noticed with each year passing the Ghost Bicycle is adorned with flowers. I'm yet to glimpse who places this commemorative gesture –this too a mysterious enigma?

I have strollers appearing in the background, a car darts into my frame, nonchalantly a 'cool-posed' skateboarder cruises by –I capture a 06:45 commuter striding hurriedly for his outbound train; sunrises, sunsets day after day on a lonesome tribute...

Crucified to the pole, her pale skeletal frame victim to coastal damp –rust 'n decay now grim evidence that Mr McPherson's memorial is slowly and sadly wasting away...

Photographic Treatment:
The fact that the bicycle remains bolted in one place seriously restricts camera vantage points; I also realised that subject content/composition was more to do with what to 'eliminate' than what to include in each shot! I know I needed to single out the bicycle in such a way as to portray it as a 'lonesome tombstone' in the middle of a non-existent graveyard –then, shooting during magic light hours helped convey a somber mood...
