ABOUT

Anything But Normal began with a simple, urgent truth: women’s pain has been hiding in plain sight for far too long. The objective was to create communication that both acknowledged and challenged the widespread normalisation of women’s health symptoms. Globally, 1 in 2 women face ongoing health challenges, yet many are encouraged to accept symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding, severe period pain, changes in libido, severe menopausal symptoms and the physical effects of perimenopause as something they should simply endure. Limited education around contraception further contributes to confusion, uncertainty and silence about when to seek help. To shift this narrative, the campaign needed to be emotionally resonant and visually arresting. The core creative idea centred on women “camouflaged” within everyday environments to show how symptoms are often unseen or dismissed, and how this invisibility prevents them from fully taking part in their lives. Crucially, the camouflage was created through hand-painted body art (not digital effect), ensuring each woman remained real, present and unedited, highlighting invisibility without erasing the individual. The film’s storytelling deepens this emotional connection. Each scene begins in close focus on a woman’s eyes before slowly zooming out to reveal her camouflaged presence. This draws the viewer into her internal experience, then exposes the external reality of being absorbed by her surroundings. Sound design heightens the emotional intensity of each moment, echoing the inner monologue of women navigating symptoms that hold them back. Seamless transitions between protagonists create a poetic and shared emotional landscape. This craft-led authenticity extended across out-of-home placements, social storytelling and influencer collaboration, encouraging women to share experiences. A dedicated website and AI-led chatbot offered private, judgment-free support. Since launching in May 2025, the campaign has reached 133K women, generated 168% higher engagement rate than paid competitors, delivered 323K organic impressions, and resulted in 72% of women consulting an HCP after viewing, demonstrating both wide visibility and deep, personal interaction. Fresh thinking, meticulous craft and inclusive storytelling, Anything But Normal made an unseen issue visible and encouraged women to recognise that if a health issue is holding them back, it's anything BUT normal.
