ABOUT

SHH Architects and Interior Designers were commissioned to redesign the interiors for a high profile luxury property in central London. As part of this project, SHH’s CGI Department we’re also commissioned to produce a series of thirty CGI images of the development to be used as marketing material for the future sale of the property.

Our brief was to produce a set of CGI’s for each of the principle rooms accurately depicting every detail, communicating a lifestyle and illustrating the quality of finishes, lighting and the general ambience. Our main challenge was the scale of the property, with hundreds of fabrics, stones, timbers and metals needing to be re-produced, in a short period of time. Detail shots were commissioned to communicate the quality of finish throughout the scheme, which meant that all surfaces had to be detailed and reproduced at a very high resolution.

Our concept was to approach each shot as a photographer, not a CGI artist moving around a 3D Model. We feel the latter approach breaks the realism of an image. We worked within the limits of a normal SLR camera, in terms of camera lenses, available light within an interior, depth of field, noise, and of course tone. Much of our time went into ensuring each finish captured the imperfections of real world materials, whether adding dust, scratches or even finger marks. Of course the hardest challenge with this approach is finding a balance in making the finishes look new and desirable, whilst adding the little degradations which seem un-noticeable but overall add realism and warmth to an image.

The result was a collection of images that combine comfortably as a set, depicting a new, elegant interior balanced with a natural sense of depth that one can find within interior photography.

Our end client is the buyer, and in order to sell the house the CGI’s need to break the barrier of the client questioning the reality of what they are looking at. The product needs to look real in order for them to concentrate on the design and trust in what they are seeing.
