ABOUT

Hijos de Rivera is the holding company of the world-famous beer Estrella Galicia, it has a history of 116 years with 31 companies established in 8 countries and employs 1,500 people around the globe. The company, originally founded by JM Rivera in 1906, is still a family business whose motto is quality and craftsmanship above everything else.
The logotype is inspired by a detail of an iconic 1960s mural by Ángel Atienza in the original factory that decorates the boiler room of Estrella Galicia, which is currently their museum in A Coruña, Spain and can be seen in the video above.
The logotype portrays a hidden seed in the R that represents that seed planted by JM Rivera in 1906, this seed and thus the family name, Rivera is protected by the H (Hijos=sons) which represents the descendants of the original founder that has successfully managed to transform a local Galician company into a global brand without losing its roots, quality, and legacy.
As a holding company, the logotype is one of the few elements in direct contact with the public through the packaging of its brands, as a system, we didn’t want to take the spotlight of the brands when they sit together, so we created a brand system that consists of black and white and a series of symbols inspired by the local Celtic petroglyphs and Atienza’s mural that would become an internal international language for the company in all of its different departments, signage, merchandise, and locations.
