ABOUT

A short film to capture the romance and beauty of Finchcocks, a country house in the heart of Kent where piano players of all levels can spend long weekends learning and practicing with professional players.

Finchcocks itself is a privately owned Georgian manor house set in over 5 hectares of gardens and grounds near Goudhurst, in Kent.

Until recently it was a museum of keyboard instruments, primarily pianos. Today it’s home to a family, and hosts regular residential piano masterclass courses and concerts.
Our film was designed to capture this aspect of the place.

In keeping with the house and its environs, our film is traditional in structure, delivering its message wordlessly. Our sole aim was to capture the spirit of the place, to present a montage of images and sounds that would leave a lasting impression, and hopefully a desire to visit.

Filmed over five days in 2021, we began filming late in the season with a dawn shoot in September, finishing with some pick-ups and reshoots in December. Whilst shooting digital in 1:1.85 cinema ratio, we decided to use only vintage lenses for this project, eschewing the super-sharpness and general excellence of modern optics for a somewhat softer, less perfect look, chromatic aberration and all.
