About me

In the late 1980s, after graduating with a BSc in Architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture followed by an MA in Design Research from the Royal College of Art, I started creating experimental art using analogue and digital technology. This led to a long career in the commercial, creative digital space. Around 2020, I decided to switch careers to focus entirely on designing and creating innovative sculptural lighting combining hand-building ceramics with some of my technical and digital skills.

After taking numerous ceramics courses, I committed to a full-time focus on my practice, setting up a studio in London in 2022 and establishing a new business, 'Possible Shapes' at the beginning of 2024.

Quite early in my ceramics journey, I became fascinated by how beautifully light transmits through thin porcelain and, inspired by the fractal-like chaotic structures found in natural forms, I've developed novel processes to create a series of sculptural lighting using ultra-thin, delicate and translucent porcelain combined with earthy, unglazed terracotta. The results are a spectacular and beautiful range of lighting with no two pieces in the family being identical.

My technical and digital background has been useful in helping me to the create tools and electrical/electronic parts using 3D printing and in developing custom built rechargeable battery systems as well as learning how to self-certify for CE/UKCA compliance.

Currently I'm working on expanding my product range, working on several commissions as well as developing non-functional sculptural and wall-art pieces.
