Photographers
A photographer shoots and post-produces images for a brief - commercial and advertising, editorial, product and still life, lifestyle, fashion, food, portrait and architectural. Photography is genre-specialised, so the page is best used to find a photographer whose book is full of the kind of work you need rather than a generalist.
How to choose
Hire on genre. A great food photographer is not automatically the right fashion or architectural shooter, so shortlist people whose portfolio is built around your category. Then clarify the commercial details that matter most in photography: the day rate versus image usage and licensing, whether crew, kit and studio or location costs are included, and how much retouching and post-production is in the quote.
Good to know
A commercial photographer plans and shoots images for a client brief, then selects and retouches the final frames. Work spans advertising and brand campaigns, product and still life, lifestyle, fashion, food, portrait, event and architectural photography - most photographers specialise in one or two of these genres.
Photographers typically charge a day or half-day rate plus a separate usage/licensing fee based on where and for how long the images run. Day rates vary widely - roughly £400 to £2,000-plus depending on genre, experience and production scale - and crew, kit, studio hire and retouching may be billed on top. Always confirm usage rights in writing.
Share reference images and the look you want, a shot list or the deliverables you need, the usage (which drives licensing), the location or studio requirements, the timeline and the budget. Discuss crew, props, models and post-production early, as these affect both cost and scheduling.
Depth in your specific genre, consistent lighting and composition across shoots, and the ability to deliver a coherent set of images rather than one strong frame. For commercial work, look for recognisable brand or product shoots close to your brief.
By a weekly-refreshed composite of editorial standing, portfolio depth, engagement, client recommendations and recent activity - so active, well-regarded photographers appear first.
