As you can see from my CV that my working career I have been heavily involved in exhibition industry and was responsible for most of the surveys done these being Earls Court, Olympia, ExCel venues to name but a few and then inputting this information, being not only the obvious such as the internal dimensions of walls, columns, but also the position of doors and also their swings, catering areas, fire points etc, on our system for the departments use as a template in order that these would be used for drawing up exhibitions, such as The Royal Tournament, London's Motor Show. And with stand space being £200 + per sq.m, these plans needed to be accurate.

I was however trained as a RC Detailer at Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners and was with them for a number of years before and after they moved out of London to Reading in the early 70's and with them I took my C&G,ONC & HNC in Building Construction, it's true that have lost most of my experience since leaving civil engineering industry, but what I lack in experience now I make up with enthusiasm and of course in those days we were on the drawing board.

It was while I was at P&O Exhibition Services based in Earls Court that we were introduced with the CAD side of things in the early nineties, with firstly a system could Concerto, a dos based system and then a few years later AutoCAD which was them Release 14 and progressed up from that to AutoCAD 2002. Since being made redundant in December 2006 and forming my only company SPD Ltd I purchased the License for ADT 2007 and 2008, of which I still operate. I hope this may not put you off my application; I am in the process of folding the company due to lack of interest, as the exhibition industry is quite a close knit community and people don't like change.

I was responsible for most of the surveys done these being Earls Court, Olympia. ExCel venues to name but a few and then inputting this information, being not only the obvious such as the internal dimensions of walls, columns, but also the position of doors and their swings, catering areas, fire points etc, for the departments use as a template in order that these would be used for drawing up exhibitions, such as The Royal Tournament, London's Motor Show. Unlike most drawing offices in the industry we didn't solely rely on plans sent by venues, in the most part these plans are far too complicated to read for the layman, it was my job to simplify these plans to make them more user friendly for the client and ultimately and easy plan to read and present to exhibitors. Also being able to talk and take briefs from clients, being able to relate to contractors alike.

Sector Experience

With well over 25 years in the exhibition industry I feel I have more experience than most in my field. When I joined Earls Court Drawing Office in November 1987 managed under Ernie Lunn, considered by most in the industry to be the best in his day and fortunately for me I feel privilaged to have worked under him. I have worked on some of the industries well known shows The Royal Tournament, London's Motor Show as already mentioned, London International Boat Show, Crufts, MPH, Caravan Show, Pulse Show and Top Drawer to name a few at Earls Court. Fine Art and Antiques Fair, London International Horse Show, Erotica, La Dolca Vita 2006/2007, also these being public shows, the latter being problematical as this show in 2006 was the first of its kind and being that all the stand were on the 45% and for those who know Olympia know why with columns and exits having to be taken into consideration!
