About me

My name is Philip Pagett, a graduate from Southampton Solent University in Film Production. During the course I became involved with most parts of the production process, from the concept of various projects to their distribution and exhibition. I have experience in various pre-production, on-set and post-production roles; and I know my way around industry standard camera, sound, lighting equipment and editing software (examples are on my CV). It is these skills and experience that I hope to be able to give you as part of the team as a Production Assistant or an Assistant Video Editor, for example.

My ultimate goal is to be a filmmaker who specialises in editing, either freelancing or as part of a production company; in the meantime I'm happy to do anything as part of a team to produce great videos/short films etc. I'm currently looking for work and to gain more experience in an industry I love. There are gaps in my knowledge and I'm always willing to learn new things so I can be more effective in my work.

I have always had a fascination with visual mediums, especially film, and how films were made from script to screen. I first realised that I wanted to be a part of the film industry when I was in college, because I was given the opportunity to explore my creativity in a number of mediums such as radio production, graphic design and advertising; I found that video/film production was the best fit for me. However it was only in my university course at Southampton Solent University that I was able to home my skills as a filmmaker. Throughout my education I have taken part in projects in many roles and have seen that I'm most creative and enjoy myself the most when I'm an editor.

An inspiration of mine is Edgar Wright; his style as a director of comedic timing, reactions and understanding of story, are elements of his films that I love such as, Scott Pilgrim vs The World and the Cornetto Trilogy. I hope to achieve something similar myself someday.

Another inspiration of mine is the actor Simon Pegg, who has written films such as Paul, Hot Fuzz and Star Trek Beyond. I enjoy his style and sense of humour which hits the balance of being a significant part of his films but doesn't overwhelm the story or characters. In my scripts I try and keep the same sense of fun.
