About me
Hi, my names Philip Dearman and throughout my time in education I
have always been self driven towards art and design. As far as can
remember I've always had a pencil in my hand....
Throughout school, art was one of my favorite subjects next to PE,
but my interest developed from being taken on various school trips to
art galleries and sculpture parks, which gave the chance to explore and
study art history.
Starting college was a big eye opener for me, in terms of being
creative. I was introduced to adobe Photoshop for the first time, which
gave me the freedom and creative flare to do whatever I desired to
create, but to a certain brief. I was able to experiment with various
types of media and create my own desired affects.
University was a big leap, as I was introduced to even more creative
software, which still included Photoshop and also various others such
as Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Freehand and Flash. It was there, where I
was brought out of my shell to perform on my own initiative and really
delve into my own inspiration towards designing. I was able to go
beyond what I thought I knew and managed to accomplish and develop a
lot skills, which I thought I didn't have, which has given my own
creative flare in designing what ever I wanted. Whilst at university, I
had the pleasure of going to New York and whilst there, work on a brief
based on a niche restaurant called 'Max Brenner Chocolate by The Bald
Man' . This gave me a chance to really create a new look for the
restaurant in my own way. In Design gave me the chance to do something,
which I'd always loved to have a go at, which was interview a band of
my choice, photograph them live and by themselves and create a music
magazine spread. I thoroughly enjoyed this, because I got to work with
my clients closely and base all the design work around them.
Throughout final year of University, I was able to produce anything
I wanted for my final major project. I wrote my own brief to design
publicity types of media for a Music festival based in America called
the Vans Warped Tour. With my love of music and extreme sports, I was
able to produce two themes and choose one outcome for my final
exhibition.
Since finishing University, I have used my skills in various things,
and have done various bits of freelance for friends, family and
co-workers.
