About me

I am an award-winning journalist with more than 34 years' experience working on newspapers and magazines and consider myself reliable, honest, hard-working, a good team player and someone who is willing to go the extra mile to see a job through to completion.

I am a stickler for accuracy and getting a job done on time, and for maintaining a very high standard. I consider myself to have excellent editing and writing skills; to be proficient with word-processing, graphics and design software; able to work under pressure; possess good interpersonal and organisation skills and able to multi-task effectively.

I consider myself cool under pressure and a good communicator. I have worked with Quark, Illustrator, Adobe and Acrobat since 1988 and feel I have lots of innovative design ideas and a good knowledge of the print process.

I gained valuable experience of handling bigger news and sports stories while Deputy Editor on the first national English language newspaper for Spain, ThinkSPAIN/today.

This job involved helping to manage a team of more than 20 journalists and production staff and helping to produce one of the best national newspapers I have ever seen. I also helped to recruit correspondents and organise the editorial budget.

I was involved in writing a range of copy, from general news and features to finance and business stories. I was also responsible for producing all sports copy.

I also subbed and helped re-write every bit of copy which went in the paper, as well as designing pages and being involved in the look and presentation of the product.

I enjoyed both writing, re-writing and subbing the content and I was more than a little disappointed when the paper ceased publication on December 28, 2007. To view copies of the paper you can go to ThinkSpain today in Google and then download the publication using Acrobat Reader.

Before taking the Costa Brava plane I was Deputy Production Editor on the evening regional daily newspaper The Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph, based in Kettering, Northants, for 11 years.

This involved helping to organise the daily workflow for a team of 10 sub editors, subbing copy and page design and layout using QuarkXpress on Apple Macs, at first, and then PCs.

In 1981 I was voted East Midland Allied Press Journalist of the Year, winning a one week, all-expenses paid trip to Florida which included working on a daily newspaper in Tampa Bay.

I am creative, an accomplished design sub and someone who is not afraid of getting his sleeves rolled up to lead from the front.
