About me
As a designer I am a professional - versatile and meticulous - but with the necessary touch of design madness. I have run an in-house design team, collaborating with the marketing team, board of directors and suppliers. Collaboration and working alone suit me in equal measure. I am good humoured and forthright as a colleague, but have the grit to deliver intelligent, appropriate solutions within budget and to deadline. It affords me satisfaction to provide effective work which exceeds the client's expectations. My experience is strictly in print, though I have prepared work for publishing on the web.
Versatile
My scope as a designer ranges from extreme design (encompassing the ugly, outrageous and shocking), through seductive design (clever, intriguing, and elegant), to pedestrian design (functional, unobtrusive, and legible). This is based on the understanding that design has a job to do, and is either appropriate or inappropriate.
Conceptual
I am not daunted by complex structuring of information and thrive when handling projects which require processing large numbers of variables.
Typography and branding
I have been involved in, or have single-handedly managed, numerous brand positioning, logo development and brand application projects. In consequence I have a thorough grasp of what is required. As a freelance designer, I have done branding exercises, then logo and corporate identity development and implementation for small companies such as WaterRower, PML, CRG.
