Dear Sir or Madam,
I am very interested in applying for the position of Creative Designer as advertised on the Creative Pool website for Silver Crane Ltd. Please find my CV and a few examples of my work enclosed for your perusal.
I am a local experienced illustrator with a background in Architectural Illustration - for over twelve years I produced hand finished artist's impressions for property sales brochures, architectural practices, and town council planning committees from architectural plan drawings. More recently I have worked as a book illustrator using both computer and traditional media.
I was employed as a full time architectural illustrator from 1999 to 2009 working for Paul Barnes Illustration: *, ink and gouache media. One or two examples of my work can be seen on property hoardings around the local Ringwood area.
Last year undertook a commission to illustrate a book of short stories. The book, entitled 'The Firekeeper's Daughter' is shown here on the publishers website: *.
More recently I have taken on a variety of small freelance jobs; a few simple diagrams executed in Corel Draw.
I would like to work full time in an imaginative field of design/illustration since I feel I have a natural flair for this work, though I have the discipline of working within the strict of architectural illustration.
Prior to working in architecture, I worked for a few years for my family's business, and before that in community arts where I was a paste-up artist for local charity magazines and newsletters. Prior to that I trained in engineering and architectural draughtsmanship producing and editing two dimensional and isometric plan drawings.
I consider myself very flexible regarding working hours since I often I had to work to tight deadlines on my own initiative around the clock. I also enjoy the atmosphere of working in a small team with others of like mind. I have good experience of most artistic media and am open and adaptable to new ways of working and willing to share and learn new skills. I have a passion for all types of art and illustration, in particular the children's book illustrators of the late nineteenth/early twentieth century such as Edmund Dulac, Warwick Goble and Arthur Rackham, whose level of craftsmanship I admire.
I have my own transport, a full driving license and live in Ringwood.
I do hope you will consider my application and would very much look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Paul E. Crabb
