Paul likes to keep it a secret but he was first lured away to the bright lights of advertising from a promising career as a night shift shelf stacker at Presto's. Copywriting wasn't an option because of his appalling spelling (his unnatural tendency to actually study the brief before making a start on award-winning concepts would quickly have made him an outcast among other writers in any case). Nor could he be a 'suit' due an unfortunate lifelong shoulder pad phobia.

That left Art Direction. Armed with nothing more than a packet of kiddies crayons and some sandwiches in a white hanky on the end of a stick, he made his way first to Harrison Cowley, then on to Brookes & Vernon. He's also done time at H'ROC and Vivarini - and picked up a few gongs on the way. His addictions to Mars Bars and Budvar mean that brainstorming sessions often take place in a local newsagents opposite a pub. But, that aside, he's no real danger to the public. You could hire Paul for his wit, charm and smile alone, so him being handy with his marker pens is something of a bonus. paul by dave burn
