About Pamela

My Name is Pamela Dueck. I am a Surface Pattern Designer based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. My interest in Surface Pattern Design started 3 years ago when I was looking for job opportunities to work from home.

I currently work in a fabric store and have always been interested in sewing and designing clothing. My first fashion design project was when I was 5 years old. In my 20's I began my first business designing bridal and evening dresses, as a side gig and became a hairstylist, with my focus in Hair extensions for my full time job.
To fill the time when business was slow, I took up crochet and designed my own line of crochet swimwear (bikinis and one-pieces, cover-ups, dresses, halters, shorts, pants, sweaters and ponchos). From there I wrote a crochet pattern book for some bathing suits and basic halter patterns called, "Modern Crochet for the Beach Babe Goddess".

When the pandemic hit, I was forced to close my business down and started full-time at the fabric store.
The patterns on the fabric have always caught my eye, but I never thought about who created them until 3 years ago, now I am always looking for the name of the artist on the fabric.
I was introduced to Surface Pattern Design after watching a free class taught by Bonnie Christine, and I started drawing and learning how to vectorize my drawings using a free program called Inkscape. I wasn't in the financial position to start with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. My art is created using pencil, pen, markers and watercolours, currently. I really enjoy mixed media and then using digital for colouring, moving and resizing.

I really enjoy abstract, flowers, camo, imperfect shapes, and plaids. Bright colors are my favourite, and using softer colours to enhance them or compliment my design. My art needs to express a positive emotion, and it is not finished until it makes me "Smile."
I am looking forward to creating more designs for Fashion, upholstery and home decor, wall art and stationery to start with, but am open to other opportunities that may come up.
