About me

I am writing to you to apply for the position of Designer as an internship work placement, I am currently studying and working towards a BSc (Hons) in Product Design at London SouthBank University and would be extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to work for you and Im sure it will give me a grater knowledge and understanding of the design industry which would not only help me with my studies but also my future career.

My Interest in Product Design first came about when I picked it as a design studies option in secondary school, since then Ive never looked back, taking it as an option at A level then Degree. I find it extremely interesting having to come up with design ideas, whether its in response to someones need or to improve on an existing product, I found that I had a natural artistic flair and really enjoyed coming up with ranges of unique ideas. The passion for the subject made me strive to become a better product designer and has lead to a future career in Product Design.

As shown in my attached CV my previous work experience at both Docklands Sailing Center and S&D contracting Services, have been roles centered around time management and interaction skills. Having the experience of interacting with customers has given me great inter-personal skills and confidence with speaking to people on both friendly and professional levels. This skill of communication would be beneficial when presenting my design concepts and ideas to people on my team, higher management or different companies altogether.

Throughout my education I have had experience using computer design programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Alias and Solid Edge, all of which I have used to the get my message across whether its in a group presentation or to simply to develop on a design idea Ive sketched.

I would most definitely describe myself as a team player and this is something, which I have demonstrated throughout my time at university with various groups assignments. I like sharing and collaborating ideas and have no problems with communicating with colleagues, as I believe that I am a friendly, confident person. I have been known for my punctuality and attendance and commitment at work as I have never had a single day of sick when I worked through summer 2010 and would always be more than up for that extra shift, this I believe demonstrates both my good time management and commitment. Im also in the running for an award, i recently submitted an assignment (Last two pages of my portfolio) and it was chosen to be displayed at the V&A museum, i'm currently in progress developing this.
