About me
My name is Oliver Woodman and I have just finished my BA (Hons) Photography course at University Campus Suffolk in Ipswich for which I received a 1st. I am writing to enquire about the advertised position of Junior Digital Photographer. It's definitely something I would be interested in as, while I have just finished my degree, I feel I could definitely benefit from more hands-on studio practice especially when it comes to dealing with models and also the business side of the job.
I would describe myself as relaxed but quietly focused and determined. I am creative and have ideas but am not so precious about them that I can't accept when someone else's ideas are better or more suited to the task at hand. As I previously stated, I have just finished my degree and also completed both an AS level and A level in photography before that. The degree course at UCS is very theory driven so a lot of my work to date has been quite conceptual, which is certainly something I enjoy and will continue in a more art-based direction with my personal work but am definitely looking to branch out into more commercial work as a career. I am computer proficient, both Mac and PC and use Photoshop CS4 at home and Capture One 6 to a limited degree. I mostly shoot on my Canon 5D mkii but also have experience with 35mm and medium format cameras and darkroom work.
I think I can bring a willingness to learn, an attention to detail and an eagerness to make the best images I can with a positive attitude. I personally find that as long as you put a positive spin on things and have a sense of humour about life, nothing is insurmountable; problems are just lessons (this is starting to sound like a cheesy 80s power ballad now!). I think, as I'm 29, I have enough life experience and enough maturity to know what I want and what it takes to get it.
If offered this apprenticeship, I would make arrangements to relocate to London, which isn't the worst thing in the world as I have been looking for a reason to get out of Norfolk for years. I've done a fair amount of travelling; Canada, USA, Australia, Thailand, Europe and have no problem with relocating.
Thank You.
Oliver Woodman
